Getting started with enrollment

Enrollment can be completed at our Welcome & Enrollment center located at 5910 Shingle Creek Pkwy Door 9, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430 Required documents include proof of residency, your child’s birth certificate, and immunization records.

Families need to provide proof of residency, a parent or guardian photo ID, the child’s birth certificate or passport, and up to date immunization records. If a certified birth certificate or passport is unavailable, other documentation such as hospital records, adoption, or foster records would be accepted.

Yes, families residing outside the district can apply to attend Brooklyn Center Community Schools through the open enrollment process.

Returning or transferring students

If a student is returning within the same year after being withdrawn or dropped, contact the enrollment team to confirm if any new paperwork is needed. The enrollment team will provide specific guidance.

To enroll a returning student from another district, complete the enrollment process and bring required documentation (proof of residency, birth certificate, immunization records) to the Welcome and Enrollment Center. Once enrolled, Brooklyn Center Community Schools will request transcripts and records from the previous school to ensure a smooth transition.

Update your address by notifying your school site front office or update your address in person at the Welcome and Enrollment Center.

No, families with students who are open enrolled, do not need to reapply each year. Only students transitioning from Preschool to PreK will need to reapply.

If you live with a parent or guardian, they must complete the enrollment process. Contact the Welcome and Enrollment Center if your situation is different.

early learning and kindergarten enrollment

Enrollment for Early Learning, Preschool, and PreK programs begins with completing an enrollment application at the Welcome and Enrollment Center. Additional steps may include attending an Early Childhood Screening. Additional information regarding Early Learning can be found here.

Kindergarten enrollment opens January the prior year. Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1st to enroll for that school year.

health requirements

To attend Brooklyn Center Community Schools, students must be up to date with required immunizations as mandated by Minnesota law. If your child is missing vaccines and lacks health insurance, our Health Resource Centers at each building site offer free immunizations to eligible students. Yes, enrollment is allowed if you provide documentation for missing immunizations or submit a medical or conscientious exemption form, as required by Minnesota Law. Learn more about exemptions and requirements at health.mn.gov.

We utilize on demand interpreter services at the Welcome and Enrollment center. Families are welcome to come to the Welcome & Enrollment Center Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and request interpreter services.
